The provinces with the highest number of house sales were Istanbul with 19,467, Ankara with 12,496 and Izmir with 7,044, while the provinces with the lowest number were Hakkari with 53, Ardahan with 93 and Bayburt with 116, respectively.
Foreclosed house sales amounted to 13,574. Foreclosed house sales in Turkey in August decreased by 17.1% compared to the same month last year, reaching 13,574. The share of mortgage sales in total home sales was 10.1%. Mortgage home sales in January-August decreased by 49.8% compared to the same period last year, amounting to 76 thousand 485 units. 3 thousand 55 mortgaged sales in August; 18 thousand 17 of the mortgaged sales in January-August were first-hand sales.
As a result of other sales, 120,581 houses changed hands. Other house sales in Turkey increased by 14.1% in August compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching 120,581 units. The share of other sales in total house sales was 89.9%. Other house sales increased by 13.2% in January-August compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 729,832.
The number of first-hand house sales was 41,913. The number of first-hand house sales in Turkey increased by 18.7% in August compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching 41,913. The share of first-hand house sales in total house sales was 31.2%. First-hand home sales totaled 256,210 in January-August, up 7.5% from the same period last year.
92,242 homes changed hands as resale homes. Second-hand home sales in Turkey increased by 6.3% in August compared to the same month last year, reaching 92,242 units. The share of resale homes in total home sales was 68.8%. Second-hand home sales totaled 550,296 in January-August, down 1.6% from the same period last year.
Home sales to foreigners in August decreased by 26.2% compared to the same month last year, reaching 2,257. The share of home sales to foreigners in total home sales was 1.7% in August. The provinces with the highest number of home sales to foreigners were Istanbul - 838, Antalya - 696 and Mersin - 174 respectively.
Sales of housing to foreigners in January-August decreased by 40.0% compared to the same period last year, reaching 15 thousand.
