Indonesia's ambitious plan to build 15 million homes in the next five years

Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesia’s President-elect Prabowo Subianto and his Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka have unveiled a series of programs to support the country’s future development. One of the key areas of this program is the housing sector, where the new government aims to build 15 million homes in five years – three million per year. According to a government official, such a large-scale initiative is necessary to address the numerous social problems faced by the country’s residents, especially the lack of basic amenities such as clean water, electricity and internet access.
Research shows that thousands of poor citizens live in conditions that fall far short of modern standards, often limited in their options due to the lack of decent housing. In response to this problem, the new government plans to build three million homes every year, including one million apartments in urban areas and two million in rural areas. The construction of these homes is especially important for rural areas, where this initiative can not only improve living conditions but also create new jobs, contributing to economic development.
However, the implementation of the housing program requires careful consideration of many aspects. The official emphasized the need to consider financial resources, land acquisition, provision of building materials, as well as obtaining necessary permits and subsidies for target groups. The successful implementation of such an ambitious strategy will require not only standard approaches to planning, but also non-standard solutions to overcome existing barriers. The housing program should make a significant contribution to eliminating the housing deficit in the country, where there is a shortage of up to 12.7 million houses, and will certainly be an important step towards improving the quality of life for millions of Indonesians.
