Indonesia again activates plans for the construction of the second airport on the island of Bali

2024-11-16 12:00
The new administration of Indonesia under the President of Prabovo Subianto is actively promoting the project for the construction of the second airport at Bali, which for a long time was at risk of delay. The complete approval of the President for this ambitious project is aimed at solving the problem of congestion observed in the existing airport of Gusti Ngura Ray.
According to The Straits Times, referring to sources in Indonesian policy, the project is designed to increase the availability of this popular tourist direction and improve the conditions for travelers. The new airport will be located in the Kububambakhan area in the north of Bali, just two hours from the capital of the island, Denpasar.
This initiative was a response to an impressive increase in the tourist flow in Bali, which last year attracted 15.5 million visitors, practically returning to the 2019 level, to the pandemic Covid-19. According to the latest data, in the first seven months of this year, 3.89 million tourists visited the region, which significantly exceeds last year. Despite the fact that the project of the new airport was proposed back in 2020, its implementation was delayed due to a lack of support from local self-government.
Now, with the active support of the central government, it is expected that the new airport will be able to serve up to 20 million passengers per year, taking large aircraft as Boeing 777-300 and Airbus A380. The completion of construction is assumed in two to three years, which will give an additional impetus to the development of tourism infrastructure on the island.
